2023 Chrysler Commander Rumors, Redesign, and Expect. Chrysler desperately needs something new in its lineup and FCA management is certainly aware of this. Simply, just a couple of models in the portfolio seems way too little for a brand with such a reputation. So, it’s no wonder that various reports suggest that we are about to see a complete revision of the lineup in the next couple of years. One of the models that could come first is the 2023 Chrysler Commander, which has been rumored months ago.
From what we know so far, the new model would be heavily based on the Jeep Commander and Grand Commander models. These two are sold exclusively in China. The twins would serve as the basis for Chrysler’s new SUV, both in terms of mechanics and aesthetics. At this point, the new model is still a rumor but we expect that officials could say something about it in the near future. Meanwhile, take the following paragraphs with a reserve.
2023 Chrysler Commander Engines
When it comes to the powertrain, we count on a familiar 2.0-liter turbo-four, which puts out around 230 horsepower and 258 pound-feet of torque and comes in pair with a 9-speed automatic transmission. Of course, we expect that the 2023 Chrysler Commander would also come with a more powerful version of this engine, which puts around 280 horsepower.
We have no doubt that some form of electrification would happen. Most reports suggest a new plug-in hybrid system, based on the same turbo-four gasoline engine. More details should come in the near future.
2023 Chrysler Commander Design
When it comes to base design characteristics, we’ve just mentioned that this could easily be a re-branded version of the crossover that already exists in the Chinese market for a couple of years. In this case, we would probably see the same mechanics. This means a stretched variant of Cherokee’s platform, which is commonly known as the Compact Wide architecture. We presume that the 2023 Chrysler Commander would use the same 110.2-inch version, which is reserved for the longer Grand Commander in China.
While mechanics and proportions would probably be identical, we expect some revisions in terms of styling. The overall look would remain pretty close, but we have no doubt that the North American version would come with a different front end, based on the brand’s latest design language, introduced with the facelifted Pacifica.
Interior
On the other side, some interior revisions are pretty much a certain thing. One of them could be the seating capacity. The Chinese version comes standard with three rows of seats, while the new 2023 Chrysler Commander would probably come as a five-seater. This would mean more legroom in the second row and more cargo space behind the seats.
When it comes to the dashboard design, we would probably see some revisions. The overall contour would probably remain the same, but we presume that the 2023 Chrysler Commander would look a little bit more upscale. We could see finer materials, digital instrument clusters and similar things. We also expect to see some revisions on the center console. The current, classic gear level could be replaced with a modern rotary knob. Naturally, we count on a longer list of standard equipment as well.
2023 Chrysler Commander Release Date and Price
Despite we are still waiting to hear something from the officials, most reports suggest that the 2023 Chrysler Commander could arrive already in the next year. It’s still early to speculate about the price, while we expect that the new model will compete mostly with two-row mid-size crossovers, such as Honda Passport, Ford Edge and Hyundai Santa Fe, as well as with some more luxurious models like Lexus RX, Acura RDX etc.
