2023 Ram 3500 Upgrades, Specs, Price, and Transmission. The current generation of Ram’s HD pickup trucks has been around for a couple of years and despite that they look fresh and offer impressive performances and capabilities, that doesn’t mean we won’t see changes in the near future. Updates could come already for the 2023 Ram 3500, reports say. At this point, we are still waiting for the officials to confirm, but it looks like the next year will bring a new transmission for this model. Of course, we are talking about the diesel model, as the gasoline version already uses a pretty refined ZF-sourced transmission.

Other than a new gearbox, we probably won’t see too many significant changes. Most of the things are about to remain the same, especially when it comes to mechanics. Visually, we could see smaller updates in terms of new color options, but the overall layout will certainly remain the same. We expect that the new version will arrive sometime in the second half of the year.

2023 Ram 3500 Engines

Other than the new transmission, we have no doubt that the 2023 Ram 3500 will remain in the same way. This includes the engine lineup as well, which consists of three powertrain options. Base models will continue with a well-known 6.4-liter V8 HEMI engine, which puts out around 410 horsepower and 430 pound-feet of torque. It comes in pair with an 8-speed ZF-sources transmission, which does a fantastic job.

For those who prefer diesel engines and need higher capability, there are two options in offer. In both cases, we are talking about a 6.7-liter Cummins inline-six turbodiesel. In the base variant, it puts around 370 horsepower and 850 pound-feet of torque. On the other side, the more powerful variant is good for about 400 horsepower and 1.075 pound-feet of torque, which provides the max torque that goes up to magnificent 37.000 pounds.

We presume that the arrival 2023 Ram 3500 Allison transmission models won’t affect the numbers in terms of towing capacity.

2023 Ram 3500 Could Get Allison Transmission

Without any doubt, this is the biggest possible novelty for Ram’s HD pickup truck. Of course, we are talking about the diesel version, which currently uses a 6-speed automatic gearbox. This Aisin unit is pretty familiar to a wide range of drivers and it still offers quite respectable capabilities. However, rivals feel more modern, considering that they use 10-speed units, which is pretty much a golden standard in the industry these days.

Therefore, the 2023 Ram 3500 could come with a big novelty. Allegedly, FCA won’t wait for Aisin to develop a new unit but rather switch to Allison. The reputable U.S. company already has a perfect product for Ram HD models, as its 10-automatic transmission can already be found under the current-generation Chevy Silverado. It proved itself as a capable and refined unit, so there is no doubt that Ram would benefit from it.

2023 Ram 3500 Design

The 2023 Ram 3500 definitely won’t change when it comes to base design characteristics. This is still a pretty fresh model, especially by the standards of the HD pickup truck segment. Therefore, you may count on the same mechanics, based on the standard 1500 half-ton model, which ensures excellent ride quality. This truck offers a great balance between comfort and capabilities and you can even opt for some pretty significant upgrades. Of course, we are talking about air-suspension, which is a class-exclusive option that brings ride quality to a completely new level.

Visually, there is always a chance to see smaller updates in terms of new color options etc. On the other side, we have no doubt that the overall appearance will remain unchanged.

Interior

Changes on the inside aren’t expected either. The 2023 Ram 3500 will continue with the class-leading cabin in terms of quality, which offers attractive aesthetics in a combination with quality materials and very good build precision. Compared to rivals, its dashboard looks superior, even in the most basic variants like Tradesman. Of course, higher trim levels offer much more. There, you can get finer materials and loads of exclusive features, especially in terms of tech goodies. This includes the available 12.0-inch touchscreen as well.

Naturally, you may count on different cab styles in the offer, including single- and two-row variants.

2023 Ram 3500 Release Date and Price

We expect to see 2023 Ram 3500 sometime in the second half of the year. Despite the possible additions of a new 10-speed Allison transmission, the price for the diesel shouldn’t change too much. For reference, it currently starts at around 46.000 dollars. On the other side, gasoline models are available already at 36.500 dollars. When it comes to the competition, the Big Three are the only players in the segment, so we are talking about Ford F-350, Chevy Silverado 3500HD and GMC Sierra 3500HD.
